The La Grange Park Library, of course, specializes in books, but libraries today are so much more than that! For example, they have free wifi, laptops you can use, wifi hotspots that you can check out, hundreds of free programs every year, meeting rooms, and a notary service that folks find really handy. And that doesn't even scratch the surface!
They have been La Grange Park's library since 1975. They began as a bookmobile that made stops around town, then they moved into the basement of Barnsdale school, then into their current building in 1989. The library has been a member of the Chamber at least as long as Susan has been involved with the library since 2006, first as a trustee and now as the marketing and communications coordinator.
The library is a Chamber member because they love to partner with local businesses. La Grange Park business owners can get a library card here, even if they don't live inLa Grange Park. They also have research databases that may be of use to business owners.
If you'd like to apply for a card or would like to talk to one of our reference staff about what they have to offer, please stop by! You can also reach them at 708-352-0100.
There is always something going on at the library! You can register for most of their events online or by phone. They have Spanish and French discussion groups, kids' story times, board game nights, book clubs, and they're about to get their Glowforge laser cutter and engraver that they will be showing off on May 21. Their latest newsletter is online if you'd like to see what they have to offer.
In her spare time, Susan loves to read, of course. Her first job out of library school was as a reference librarian at the Newberry Library in Chicago. Rare books and genealogy are a passion of hers as a result. She also loves to knit, craft, and play roller derby with the Chicago Outfit Roller Derby. All three of her daughters (12, 12, and 9 years old) play for the junior league now, so it's a family affair!
If you haven't been to your local library recently, you should really check it out.
